Our Mission

The Mission of the Yoga Equity Project is to make healing practices like yoga, mindfulness, and meditation available to everyone who wants to participate. We recognize that due to capitalism, access to healing spaces is severely restricted and unequally distributed, and we want to change that! We believe that all bodies deserve love and nourishment, and everyone should be able to breathe deeply and practice self care. Everyone deserves the time and space to heal. Everyone deserves to feel space and freedom. Whatever people need to be able to practice (a stipend! a yoga mat! a snack! childcare!) can be provided if we work together as a community to make it happen.

Our Vision

We envision a world where everyone has what they need to thrive. Everyone deserves nutritious, beautiful, delicious food. Everyone deserves safe housing, access to education, and excellent healthcare. Everyone deserves access to beauty and nature. In every community there are dedicated people working on food and housing for all, and in our community we add access to yoga as a human right! Our vision for the Yoga Equity Project is to inspire similar projects everywhere, so more and more people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy the health, joy, and peace that yoga can provide.

Yoga studio promotes equity and inclusion

“Yoga For Every Body” is a slogan that the Otter Creek Yoga Studio started using earlier this summer. It is meant to capture the Middlebury studio’s mission to ensure that it is a space that is inclusive and welcoming to all.

Ways of Seeing: Yoga can, must advance equity

The Yoga Equity Project seeks to provide the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga and meditation to everyone, by addressing the inequalities that keep some people from accessing yoga spaces.
